Deputy Claudia Pérez of the PAN in Mexico City expressed the need to establish clear rules, updated protocols, and a true coordination between the State, unions, and families to address violence in schools. She pointed out that this problem cannot continue to be treated as isolated cases nor the exclusive responsibility of the schools.
She proposed the creation of inter-institutional working groups to facilitate collaboration between educational authorities, unions, and representatives of mothers and fathers. Claudia Pérez reaffirmed her party's commitment to an education free from violence, safer, and with dignified conditions for both those who teach and those who learn.
In Pérez's words, "Violence is not combated with speeches, it is faced with decisions." She highlighted that current protocols, when they exist, are often outdated or applied erratically. Andrés Atayde, parliamentary coordinator of the PAN, supported the initiative and emphasized the urgency of protecting school environments to prevent schools from becoming risky spaces.
The PAN Caucus in the Congress of Mexico City urged federal and local educational authorities to review and update protocols for addressing violence in public schools of the capital. Claudia Pérez presented a point of agreement urging authorities to work together with the SNTE and the CNTE to implement effective and preventive measures.
Pérez indicated that she would propose legislative reforms to strengthen the legal framework that protects the school community, focusing on human rights, gender perspective, and intersectionality. The deputy emphasized that school violence is not a minor issue and affects teachers, administrators, and families, thus its approach must be comprehensive.
Ultimately, Claudia Pérez urged to build a school environment where respect and peace are fundamental for learning. Her proposal is not limited to an institutional call but actively seeks to improve safety in schools and create violence-free spaces.
